LIGA volunteer request letter

Dear Fellow Long Island Golfer:

The Long Island Golf Association (LIGA) is a non-profit organization of 76 private and public golf clubs as well as non-club-affiliated individual Associate members.  We conduct fifteen championships for amateurs and professionals at golf venues throughout the Long Island area, including the Long Island Open Championship and the Long Island Amateur Championship (You can view our 2015 Tournament Schedule by clicking on the word “Schedule” in the frame at the top of our home page,  These tournaments are run primarily by volunteers who have contributed much of their time and energies toward making the LIGA and its tournaments successful over the past 90 years.  It has been a way for our golf-loving volunteers to give something back to the game we all enjoy.

Would you be willing to devote some of your time to join our Tournament Volunteers Committee?  Committee members can spend as little as a half a day on the golf course at one or more of our events assisting the participants in the completion.  They are encouraged to help at the beginning of a round on the starting tee, at the scoring table at the conclusion of a round or out on the course during play to assist the players with questions as to rules, pace of play, location of wayward shots, etc.  The Committee members also will spend their time watching some of the best amateur and professional golfers from the New York Metropolitan area play outstanding golf on some of the most famous golf courses in the country. While detailed knowledge of the Rules of Golf is desirable, it is not a requirement. A contribution of as little as a few days a year would be most welcome.

If you would like to join our Committee and enjoy a different aspect of the game of golf by becoming part of the group that conducts these golf tournaments, please send an e-mail to our Executive Director, Douglas Vergith, at: Please include your name, address, phone numbers and return e-mail address.

Thank you for considering becoming part of the LIGA and we hope to hear from you soon.
